The VISA model is a discrete-event model simulating the maintenance and supply system for airlift and fighter weapon systems. The model is designed to evaluate contemporary wartime supportability concepts as well as advanced supportability related to Air Force 2000 operational concepts.

The VISA model simulates the impact of reliability, maintainability, and support systems on aircraft performance. The model easily accommodates evaluation of strategic airlift aircraft flying a multiple base, intra-theater route structure as well as tactical airlift/fighter aircraft flying in-theater sorties. The model simulates aircraft operations, component failures down to the five-digit WUC level, discrete maintenance events and demands on parts supply.

One of the unique features of the model is a concurrency matrix, which permits discrete simulation of the effects of interference among maintenance jobs. Another useful model feature, particularly for airlift aircraft, is the simulation of "catch-up" maintenance at the main operating base. This feature permits the evaluation of system redundancy impact on aircraft operational capability. The capability to model different types of base facilities and threat levels is also provided.

This model is quite versatile. A myriad of scenarios can be evaluated simply by tailoring the appropriate input values.
