Packet Switched Network Simulation

Sprint International developed a simulation of a customer's packet switched network, which linked over twenty LANs to several host sites. This simulation provided estimates of network performance (response time and throughput) for proposed system enhancements and introduction of new applications.

The results of this study highlighted potential operational deficiencies within the customer's organization and permitted operational changes to be incorporated prior to full deployment of the new applications.

Coupled with analytic models, this simulation provided the customer with reasonable estimates of expected network performance under a variety of scenarios, including stressed and degraded conditions.

Alternatives Considered: Development of in-house simulation using standard programming languages.
